Ray-Ban sunglasses were introduced in 1937 by Bausch and Lomb. Funded by the United States Air Force, Ray-Ban was always at the forefront of scientifically advanced eyewear. Ray-Ban Aviators were designed for the Air Force and became one of the most imitated sunglasses in history. Aviators utilized polarized lenses and a wide frame to create eyewear that banned sunlight. In 1953, Ray-Ban introduced its second immense seller, Wayfarers. Various celebrities and movies displayed Ray-Ban brand glasses and dramatically increased sales. In 1999, Luxottica purchased Ray-Ban from Bausch and Lomb. Ray-Ban sunglasses continue to be a status symbol today.
